5 Things Making My Home Feel Better Lately

There’s a shift that happens when a house starts to feel like your own. Not because it’s finished (ours definitely isn’t), but because a few things finally click. The lamp in the right spot. A curtain panel hung just high enough. A surface cleared off at the end of the day. None of it’s dramatic, but lately, these small changes are carrying more weight than I expected. The house still has a ways to go, but it’s starting to feel like it’s working with us and not against us.

Here are a few things I’ve added (or finally adjusted) that are helping this place feel less like a project and more like a home:

1. Swapping Overhead Lights for Lamps

Overhead lighting is functional for sure, but it rarely makes a space feel good. I added a lamp to our entry console, and now that whole area feels warmer and more considered. It’s a minor change, but it makes everything look better.

My picks: Calabria lamp, Pooky Lamp, Task Lamp

2. Hanging Drapes (Even if Nothing Else Is Finished)

We’re still living with half-unpacked rooms, but adding drapes made everything feel pulled together. They soften the light, add visual height, and create a sense of calm.

My picks: Pottery Barn Linen, Amazon Linen

3. Styling One Finished Corner

I chose one spot (a side table near the couch) and gave it some actual attention. A framed print, a candle, and a stack of books later and suddenly, it feels like a finished moment. The rest of the room is still happening around it, but this little corner holds its own.

My picks: Coffee Table Book, Picture Frame, Candle

4. Upgrading Everyday Things (Towels, Soap, Basics)

I finally replaced our old towels and added a hand soap that smells like a boutique hotel, and now our bathroom feels like it belongs to functioning adults. It’s not a full renovation, but it’s enough of a glow-up to change the vibe.

My picks: Hand towels, Hand soap, Bathroom Tray

5. Cleaning the Kitchen at Night (Even When I Don’t Want To)

A clean kitchen in the morning is a gift to your future self. It sets the tone for the day and makes the entire house feel more manageable. Every night, we do the dishes, wipe down the counters and prep the morning coffee and it helps feel like a true reset to start the next day.

My picks: Counter Spray, Scrub daddy, Coffee mugs
